New Delhi : Nearly 60 Lakh Indians returned home under the Vande Bharat mission undertaken after the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
In a written reply, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the Vande Bharat Mission is among the most complex exercises ever for repatriation of citizens.
“A large number of requests were received by Indians nationals abroad for repatriation to India,” he said.
Government of India commenced operations under the Vande Bharat Mission on May 7, 2020 to facilitate return of stranded Indian nationals abroad in a phased manner.
By April 30, 2021, nearly 60 lakh people have returned under the Vande Bharat Mission, the Minister said.
“The Vande Bharat Mission is the largest and most complex exercise ever undertaken by the government for repatriation of its nationals stranded overseas,” he said.
