Srinagar : Mobile and internet services of all Cellular companies, barring Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), have been suspended since Thursday morning as a precautionary measure following death of senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani late last night in Srinagar.
Official sources said that the authorities have directed all Cellular companies to suspend mobile and internet services in the Kashmir valley till further orders.
The internet service of Jio fiber, Airtel fiber and other local service providers, including CNS point-to-point, were suspended since early this morning. Mobile service of these companies has also been suspended.
However, BSNL mobile and broadband service was functioning though the speed was very low.
Suspension of mobile and internet services has badly affected students and professionals, particularly journalists, who could not file news stories.
Meanwhile, heavy rush of people was witnessed near the main BSNL office at Exchange road, just a stone’s throw away from UNI office.
‘We were using mobile and internet service of other companies’, a number of subscribers who had come to deposit their bills said.
Geelani died last night at his Hyderpora residence. He was buried early this morning and only close relatives attended the funeral procession.
