Metro rail project in Odisha to be extended up to Cuttack

Bhubaneswar, : The upcoming Metro train in Odisha will now extend upto Cuttack as
against the earlier decision of connecting upto Trishulia. The Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra informed about the project today.The Odisha government plans to expand the metro rail project upto Cuttack.
A Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be soon prepared for the metro project. The much awaited metro rail project is scheduled to function from 2027.A high-level committee has been set up with experts that will conduct surveys for the same. The high level committee is rechecking the DPR to extend upto Cuttack.Further the road from Jaydev Vihar to Nandankanan will be widened and three-laned. Minister said that the metro will trail on the upper road while the underpass will be for road communication.He said
that,” Odisha needs a metro train. Earlier it was planned to commute from Bhubaneswar Airport to Trishulia. But later on we felt the need to extend it up to Cuttack.” The high-level committee is conducting the survey to cater to the needs of the people. A plan
will be charted after the survey is over.The metro project is expected to be functional by
2027. It is being built at a cost of Rs 6,255 crores. The State government will bear all the
expenses of the project.In the first phase, the trains will run for 26 kilometers from the
Bhubaneswar airport to Trishulia. There will be 20 metro stations.
