Kolkata, : Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) find themselves in the middle of an unexpected controversy regarding the pitch conditions at their home ground, Eden Gardens. Skipper
Ajinkya Rahane recently voiced his frustration over the nature of the pitch, requesting a spinfriendly track to suit the team’s strengths. However, Sujan Mukherjee, the experienced pitch curator of Eden Gardens, firmly denied the request, stating that the
pitch would remain unchanged. This disagreement has fueled speculation that KKR might consider shifting their upcoming matches to Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium, a venue that previously hosted Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. Social media has been abuzz with theories that the franchise, co-owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, may be exploring alternative options to avoid any further pitch-related issues. “We would love to see the pitch helping the spin bowlers but again, this wicket was under cover for the last one-and-a-half days. Both the spinners we have, the quality they have, they can bowl in any kind of wicket and I am sure they are confident as well,” Rahane was quoted as saying. Eden Gardens has long been an iconic fortress for KKR, but if the pitch does not favour their strategy, the team could be forced to look elsewhere. Barabati Stadium in Cuttack has the advantage of being relatively close to Kolkata and has hosted several IPL and international matches in the past. However,
the curator refused to make any changes in the pitch as per the demand and said, “As per the IPL rules and regulations, franchises have no say over the pitch. Ever since I have taken charge, the pitches here have been like this.” “RCB spinners took four wickets. So, why can’t KKR spinners d it?” he questioned. The dissatisfaction has led to an
exchange of words, thereby fans hoping Barabati Stadium to be the host for the upcoming matches. For now, the team remains committed to its campaign at Eden
Gardens, but if the pitch dispute continues to escalate, a shift to Cuttack might become a serious consideration. With the IPL season heating up, all eyes are on KKR’s next move. Will they stand their ground in Kolkata, or will Barabati Stadium become their new fortress? Only time will tell. Despite the speculations, KKR has not issued any official statement in this regard.
