International expo, IPL, World T-20 cricket makes Dubai preferred destination for Indian travellers : survey

Chennai : With the easing of travel restrictions post COVID-19, there has been a renewed interest in Indians wishing to travel to international destinations, according to a survey.

The survey conducted by Thomas Cook and its group company SOTC has revealed that more than 85 per cent people are keen to travel to international destinations between October and December.

The survey revealed that 77 per cent of people were interested in international holidays.

Of this 60 per cent indicate their intent to visit the UAE(Dubai-Abu Dhabi) Expo, which is heading the list of favourite destinations.

A release from Thomas Cook said the study showed that the travellers prefer an average duration stay of 4-7 nights for the Dubai Expo, IPL and the World T-20 cricket tournaments.

The key segments included families, couples, millennials (techies), education/students; MICE, business (start-ups with Tech background, Trade Associations, CXO/CIOs) and B-leisure.

The average age group of travellers ranged above 35 years and they were willing to spend about Rs. 70,000 per person (four nights) and upward of Rs 2,50,000 for a luxury trip .

The survey covered over 2,500 customers across India’s key metros like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai and mini-metros like Pune and Tier 2 and 3 source markets, including Jaipur, Lucknow, Madurai, Kochi, Indore, Cuttack, Nagpur, Ahmedabad and Surat.

The survey reveals insightful customer data, behaviour and travel trends with UAE (Dubai-Abu Dhabi) and Expo Dubai emerging as a clear driver of international demand for Q4 2021:

With re-opening of borders, vaccine acceptance/easing of restrictions, Indians are displaying strong travel appetite for UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi).Expo, which would continue till March 31, 2022.

About 47 per cent of respondents indicated their keenness to visit the expo at least once this year and 57 per cent respondents indicated that they would visit the expo more than once.

The demand for Dubai expo extends across a range of segments which included business travellers (MNCs, India corporate houses, SMEs) and trade associations –15 per cent, MICE travellers–25 per cent, leisure travellers (families/ extended families, couples, millennials, seniors)–45 per cent and education–15 per cent.
