Cuttack, : A huge quantity of duplicate gutkha along with cash to the tune of Rs 22 lakh was seized by the police at Khuntuni market in Cuttack district of Odisha last night. Acting on a tip-off, a team of cops from the Khuntuni Police Station waylaid a pick-up van in Khuntuni Market last night while it was on its way to Cuttack from Dhenkanal and inspected it, informed Tangi-Choudwar SP Umakanta Nayak in a press meet
today.While inspecting the vehicle, the police team found a huge quantity of duplicate
gutkha which was packed in several white plastic sacks and was being transported for
business purposes, added th SP.He further said that cash worth Rs 22 lakh was also found from the vehicle following which two occupants of the vehicle including the driver were detained for interrogation. All the contraband along with the cash and vehicle were seized, the SP said. Further probe into the matter is underway to ascertain more
information about the manufacturing, transportation and marketing of the duplicate
gutkha. Strict action as per the law will be taken against all those who are involved in this illegal activity, warned the SP.
