Bhopal : The mortal remains of Shaurya Chakra-recipient Group Captain Varun Singh – who succumbed in Bengaluru on Wednesday – were conveyed by an Indian Air Force special plane to the Madhya Pradesh capital this afternoon.
Army and police officers as well as public representatives were present at the Raja Bhoj Airport.
“From the Airport, the corpse will be taken to Inner Court, Sun City, Airport Road. Rituals shall be performed exclusively by kin. The body will be kept at the Bairagarh-based Military Hospital mortuary for the night. Ceremonial drills shall be performed at the 3 EME (Electronics and Mechanical Engineers) Centre on Friday and the last rites will take place at the Bairagarh Crematorium,” retired Brigadier Vinayak Ramnarayan, Vishisht Seva Medal, told UNI.
Gp Capt Singh was the son of city-resident Colonel KP Singh (Retd) who served with Army Air Defence. Col Singh’s other son Lieutenant Commander Tanuj Singh is in the Indian Navy.
Gp Capt Singh was fatally injured on December 8 in the Mi-17 V5 helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu that claimed the lives of India’s first Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, his spouse Mrs Madhulika Rawat and others.
