Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Thursday appointed MLA Ganesh Gaonkar as pro-tem Speaker of the state assembly. The Governor also fixed March 29, to be the date of holding election of the Speaker.
”Governor of Goa P S Sreedharan Pillai has appointed Ganesh Gaonkar, a Member of the Goa Legislative Assembly, to perform the duties of the Office of the Speaker with effect from March 23, 2022, until the Speaker has been chosen by the said Assembly,” the press communique said. Gaonkar, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, represents Sanvordem constituency in the state assembly.
