Srinagar : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two National Insurance Company Ltd officers, including Senior Divisional Manager, Srinagar, in a bribery case in this summer capital.
A statement issued by CBI on Tuesday said that a case was registered against the accused on a complaint alleging therein that a Dealing Official (later on, identified as Administrative Officer), National Insurance Company Ltd., Srinagar has demanded a bribe of Rs 4.5 lakh from the complainant to settle personal accidental claim of her father, who died in a road accident.
‘It was further alleged that after negotiation, the bribe amount of Rs 2 lakh was demanded, as first installment to release part claim. It was also alleged that the accused would be sharing the bribe with seniors,’ the statement said.
It said the CBI laid a trap and caught the Administrative Officer while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 2 Lakh from the complainant on Monday. ‘During investigation, role of Senior Divisional Manager (Scale-IV) was also revealed and he too was arrested,’ he said.
‘Searches at the premises, including residential and official of the accused, were conducted at Srinagar and Chandigarh,’ it said, adding cash of Rs One Lakh; Bank deposits of Rs 30 Lakh and some documents related to bank accounts, shares, property, other movable assets were recovered at the premises of Senior Divisional Manager.
‘Both the arrested accused will be produced on Tuesday in the Court of Special Judge, Srinagar,’ it added.
