Rio de Janeiro, Apr 9 (UNI):Brazil registered as many as 4,249 fatalities caused by COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, marking the largest intra day death toll since the start of the pandemic, said the national Ministry of Health in its latest update.
The overall death toll from the disease in the South American country has thus far reached 345,025, said the ministry.
The number of COVID-19 cases in the country has risen by 86,652 to 13,279,857 within the same period of time.
Brazil comes second in terms of both the number of COVID-19 cases and the death toll, following the United States which has about 31 million cases and more than 560,000 fatalities.
