Pune/Mumbai : The Mumbai Police received a call from an unknown caller who threatened to blow up the US Consulate in the city, cops said on Wednesday.
Received late Tuesday night, the call was apparently made from a mobile phone to the landline number of the consulate.
Soon after the call, cops went into a tizzy and the security around the consulate was beefed up overnight. The entire area was cordoned off and checks were carried out in the presence of senior authorities.
A bomb disposal team and dog squad were also deployed, considering the gravity of the situation.
However, nothing was found in the area after a preliminary investigation.
An official from the Mumbai Police informed that an FIR has been registered against the caller.
“This was probably a hoax call. Further investigation to identify and trace the caller is underway,” the official said.
The consulate, which was earlier in Churchgate, was shifted to Bandra Kurla Complex.
