MCL Wins Big at Ministry of Coal’s Star Rating Awards

Sambalpur : Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has achieved a remarkable feat at the
Ministry of Coal’s Star Rating Awards, with nine of its coal mines being conferred the
prestigious 5-Star Rating for the year 2023–24. This includes 02 Underground mines (Hirakhand-Bundia and Orient Colliery Mine No 1&2); and 06 Opencast Mines (Kulda;
Ananta; Samleshwari; Bhubaneswari; Lajkura; Belpahar and Gopalji-Kaniha Expansion
project). The awards were presented by Shri G Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Union Minister of Coal & Mines along with Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, Hon’ble Minister of State for Coal & Mines and Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, IAS, Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Coal at a ceremony held in Mumbai. Shri Uday Anant Kaole, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, MCL and Shri A K Behura Director (Finance) MCL along with Area General Managers of the respective mines received the awards. The Star Ratings are awarded by the Government of India on a scale from 1 to 5, evaluating each mine’s
achievements holistically. Star ratings are an indicator of mine development on various
fronts including operational excellence, safety standards, environmental sustainability,
adoption of modern technologies, and economic performance. This recognition is MCL’s
testament to sustainable and responsible mining, innovationand commitment to ensuring energy security to the nation.
