Kolkata, June 25 (Dumanimail) A middle aged patient, identified as Sujit Sarkar, was on Saturday critically wounded after his fall from a 7th floor cornice he climbed at the Institute of Neuroscience Hospital
at Park Circus despite hours of futile efforts to rescue him, official sources said.
A video footage, which went viral, showed the man seconds before falling had attempted to clutch
the surface of the cemented wall of the hospital but tumbled out and fell on the ground floor, which
was already covered with foam mattresses by the fire brigade personnel.
Sources said he was injured critically and again admitted to the hospital.
Earlier efforts from the fire brigade personnel using hydraulic ladders for about two hours to bring
him down failed because he had threatened to jump if they came close to him.
Even attempts were made to rescue him by calling a relative of the patient. But that too went
abortive, sources added.
The patient, who has nervous breakdown syndrome, a resident from Lake Town in the city, was admitted on Wednesday.
