Agartala : While 98 per cent population of above 45 -yrs age group in Tripura covered with the first shot of Covid vaccine so far, a total 24.26 lakh people of about 29 lakh eligible population have already been brought under the coverage of vaccination, which is highest in the country, said Director, Tripura National Health Mission Dr Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal.
“We have covered over 83 per cent of the eligible population so far and there is no shortage of jabs. Hopefully, by next week Tripura will achieve cent per cent vaccine coverage with the first dose. If we could administer the first dose of vaccine to the targeted population, the second dose will be administered automatically on the due date, as we shall have the complete database. As of now, 47 per cent of the 45+ age group got the second dose,” he asserted.
Besides, continuing to curfew as of now up to July 2 next and rigorous enforcement against the violation of Covid appropriate behaviour across the state, mass vaccination has yielded a positive outcome in the state, Dr Jaiswal said adding that the number of fresh infection has reduced substantially and the incidences of the critical case of Covid brought down to a minimum level.
He, however, pointed out that a hundred per cent of health care workers have been vaccinated with the first dose in the state while 73 per cent of them have received the second dose too. In the case of vaccination of front line workers, a cent per cent of them have received the first dose and 56 per cent have received the second dose.
Over 50 per cent of the eligible population of the 18+ age group has already been covered with the first dose of vaccine so far and the rest would be completed by the first week of July. As of now, six villages of North Tripura and one of Sepahijala district have been declared fully vaccinated panchayats of the state, Jaiswal added.
