Puducherry : DMK State Convenor and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R Siva on Wednesday urged the government to take immediate steps to provide solatium to the families of those who died due to Coronavirus in the Union Territory.
In a statement here, Mr Siva pointed out that the Central government had informed the Supreme Court that the National Disaster Management Commission had recommended payment of Rs.50,000 to families of those died due to Covid within 30 days and the same has to be paid through the State Disaster Management Authorities.
He urged the government to add another Rs.50,000 from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to provide Rs One lakh for them.
The leader of the opposition said that the amount be provided to all those who died within 30 days after infected by Covid in hospital or outside and even if it was not mentioned as Covid in their death certificates.
All private hospitals be advised by the government to provide the required death certificate to the relatives of the deceased on demand, Mr Siva said and demanded that a sum of Rs 2,500 as pension be paid every month to all the families who lost their livelihood due to Covid-19.
