Odisha Govt’s Crackdown on Tainted Officials Continues: Nine Face Action

Bhubaneswar, Aug 10 : Odisha government on Wednesday took strong action against nine officials on the charges of corruption and inefficiency. Chief Minister’s office sources here said the officials against whom the action was taken included o n e S u p e r i n t e n d i n g Engineer, two Executive Engineers, two Assistant Engineers, one Junior Engineer, one OAS officer, a Chief District Veterinary o ffi c e r a n d a s o c i a l educational organiser. The government gave compulsory retirement to five officials, dismissed two from service and stopped the pension of two more employees on the charges of corruption and inefficiency. The action was taken against the officials as per the policy of zero tolerance of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to corruption and inefficiency Odisha Govt’s Crackdown on Tainted Officials Continues: Nine Face Action Technology Transparency Teamwork Time Transformation and to provide service to people through a transparent, efficient and accountable administration. With this so far action has been taken against 173 government officials in the state. The five officials who were dismissed from service included former Malkangiri Rural Development Division -1 Superintending Engineer Ashish Kumar Das. He was caught by the Vigilance officials while carrying Rs 10.23 lakh illegally collected from the Contractors. Later during raids at various places property worth Rs 8.63 crore and Rs 1.04 crore in cash was found in his possession. Former Executive Engineer of Bhadrak Rural Division -1 Manas Ranjan Mohanty was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a contractor. Disproportionate assets worth Rs 3.90 crore were also recovered from his possession and two departmental inquiries were also going on against him. He was given compulsory retirement for dishonesty.
Cuttack Gandarpur drainage Division Executive Engineer was given compulsory retirement after property worth Rs 4.26 crore was found in his name and in the name of his wife. Similarly, Ramesh Kumar Sawani, Assistant Engineer of Baitarani irrigation D i v isi o n S a l p a d a i n Keonjhar district was given compulsory retirement for
corruption after a vigilance case was registered against him for possessing assets worth over Rs 1.42 crore. Ume r k o t e Ro a d s a n d Building Assistant Engineer Bisudhananda Behera was g i v e n c o m p u l s o r y retirement. on the allegation of low-quality work and a case pending against him for possessing disproportionate assets of Rs 70.93 lakh. The pension of Parlakhemundi CVDO Jalandhar Mallik was permanently stopped on the grounds of dishonesty for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 in a transfer case. Balasore District Deputy Collector and former Tehsildar of Shamakhunta block in Mayurbhanj district Savita Sahu, and EXSEO of Bolangir Prabhasini Babu were dismissed from service for taking bribes. The pension of former retired Junior Engineer of Rural Works Division-2 Digapahandi in Ganjam District was permanently stopped after he was convicted in a bribe case for taking a bribe of Rs 9,000.
