Awareness Program on Use Square Mesh Nets

Paradip: Network for Fish Quality Management and Sustainable Fishing (NETFISH), a division of
Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), has been engaged in creating awareness among fisher folk on the importance of shifting to sustainable fishing means by avoiding juvenile fishing and destructive trawling. Square mesh nets instead of traditional diamond mesh nets to prevent damage
to the ecosystem and to make fishing sustainable. In the process, to conservation of fisheries resources, a awareness vehicle of NETFISH organization aware to Paradip fishermen to use square mesh net. It is noted
that the awareness vehicle was inaugurated on 8th December, 2021 by Paradip Port Trust (PPT) Chairman P.L. Haranadh. As a result, all fishermen have begun to use the square fishing net. The support of the PPT and the success of Netfish/MPDA efforts have taken everyone by surprise. All fishermen are concerned about the safety of the childfish. This important initiative should continue this awareness program in the coming days. In the presence of OMPFA President Sumant Kumar Biswal and Secretary Subash Chandra Rout and other staff members take this initiative to complete the two day awareness program. It was decided in the coming days that the use of fisheries would be in line with the needs of fishing.
