New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reviewed preparations for facilitation of India’s contingent at Tokyo Olympics and discussed the logistical details, their vaccination status, the multi-disciplinary support being given to them.
He will also interact with the Tokyo-bound athletes on July 13 to motivate them for their participation in forthcoming Games.
In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister said, “Reviewed preparations for facilitation of India’s contingent at @Tokyo2020. Discussed the logistical details, their vaccination status, the multi-disciplinary support being given”.
In his other message he said, “On behalf of 130 crore Indians, I would be interacting with the Olympics bound athletes on 13th July to wish them luck. Let us all #Cheer4India.”
The interaction will be held virtually, the Government officials said. The Tokyo Olympic will be held from July 23 to August 8 this year.
The first batch of 120 athletes of India’s Olympic squad is to depart for Tokyo on July 17 by a charter Air India flight, the officials added.
In view of the raging Covid-19 cases, the Tokyo Olympics will be held under a state of emergency in Japan without spectators and the Indian Government has also decided not to send any officials with the contingent owing to the restrictions.
The Indian Embassy at Tokya has been assigned the responsibility to take care of the Indian squad during their stay there.
