Workers’ union protest in front of AMNS company gate demanding protection of workers’ interests

Paradip, : More than a thousand contract workers working at ArcelorMittal Nippon
Steel (AMNS) India company, who were the members of ‘Purba Upakula Shramik Sangh’ led by renowned trade union leader Prakash Tripathy. Prakash Tripathy had submitted a demand letter regarding the various problems of these workers and discussed the matter with the Paradip Additional District Magistrate and the company authorities. But the company authorities are reluctant to follow the industrial policy of Odisha. According to
the union, the industrial bodies recognize the workers’ union formed to protect the interests of the workers in all the industrial units in the Paradip industrial area. Due to which the industrial units discuss various problems of the workers with the unions and
solve the problems, and the workers also solve their problems through the union. This makes it easier for the workers and the industrial institutions. However, for more than 8 months, the Purba Upakula Shramik Sangh has been trying to discuss various problems of the workers with the AMNS, but the company authorities are not agreeing to discuss with the union. Therefore, after repeated appeals by the Additional District Magistrate, the company authorities did not pay heed to the demand. Finally, the union was forced
to hold a indefinite two hours peaceful protest infront of company gate from Monday. If
the company authorities do not resolve the issue, the union will be forced to adopt a different approach, warned labor leader and union president Prakash Tripathy. While thousands of workers are participating in the ongoing protest alongwith their general
secretary Abhimanyu Behera and secretary Ratnakar Jena.
