Bhubaneswar: While the Capital City is prepping up for the festive season after a two-year Covid hiatus, a youth in the Unit8 area of Bhubaneswar was hacked to death by some miscreants over the smuggling of brown sugar late last night. The deceased has been identified as P Subrat Rao alias Chandu. As per reports, the incident took place in the Narayan slum area in Unit-8 where a couple had been smuggling brown sugar by using Chandu’s name. Irate over this, Chandu, along with two of his friends, had gone to enquire about this when a quarrel ensued between the couple
and Chandu. Later, it took a violent turn as the couple attacked the trio with sharp-edged weapons. As a result,
Chandu died on the spot and his two friends sustained grievous injuries. Locals rescued them and rushed them to a nearby hospital for medical aid. On getting the information, police arrived at the spot and launched a probe into the matter.
