Puducherry : The central team led by Rajiv Sharma, joint secretary, Union Home Ministry left Puducherry after assessing the rain damages here.
It may be noted that the over ten days of rain played havoc in Puducherry damaging crops in several hectares of land,[perishing cattles, damaging roads and houses.
The central team visited Pillaichavady area this morning to see the damages caused by sea erosion.Later, they visited the Indira Gandhi square where legislator K S P Ramesh welcomed the team and explained the hardships due to water logging in the area.After that the team visited Thavalakuppam whwre speaker R Selvam requested them to see N R Nagr which was devastated by the rain and the entire families shifted to rescue camps.The team went there by walk and had an on the spot assessment of the damages.
The team left for Cuddalore in Tamilnadu after visiting Bahour area where the crops were damaged.
District collector Poorva Garg, PWD chief Engineer Sathyamoorthy and senior officials of the territorial administration accompanied the team.
On their arrival yesterday evening, the team had a meeting with senior officials of Puducherry administration at the chief secretariat. They also held discussions with the Lt Governor and chief minister. Chief minister N Rangasamy demanded an interim relief of Rs 300 crores for Puducherry.
