Pakistan: Road accident claims at least 30 lives, several injuries

Islamabad : At least 30 people were killed and more than 40 others were injured on Monday when a passenger bus collided with a truck on the Indus Highway in Dera Ghazi Khan, in Pakistan’s Punjab province, officials said.

The bus is was on it’s way to Rajanpur from Sialkot.

Commissioner of Dera Ghazi Khan Dr Irshad Ahmed had initially confirmed the death of 29 people, including women and children.

Dr Ahmed said that rescue officials had reached the site soon after the accident, and added that dead bodies and the injured were being transferred to the DHQ Teaching Hospital DG Khan.

Dawn quoted DHQ Teaching Hospital Medical College principal Dr Asif Qureshi confirming that the death toll from the accident had risen to 30.

The hospital management said that the death toll could further rise as four of the injured were in a critical condition.
