CJI Ramana condoles demise of Justice Mohan Shantanagoudar

New Delhi : Chief Justice NV Ramana on Sunday condoled the passing away of sitting Supreme Court judge Justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar, stating he has “lost a valued colleague” with “amazing legal acumen”.

“I was hoping for his speedy and complete recovery and his return to the Bench at the earliest. The news of his passing has come as a rude shock. I have lost a valued colleague. In the last four years of my association with him in the Supreme Court, I have benefitted immensely from his amazing legal acumen,” CJI said in a statement on Sunday.

Supreme Court Judge, Justice Mohan M Shantanagoudar passed away on Saturday following a prolonged illness. He was 63 years old.

Justice Shantanagoudar was elevated as the Judge of the Supreme Court on February 17, 2017, before which he was functioning as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Kerala.

He had earlier served as Vice-Chairman of Karnataka State Bar Council from 1991 to 1993 and as Chairman of Karnataka State Bar Council during 1995 and 1996.

Later he was appointed as Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court in May 2013 and as Permanent Judge in September 2004.
