LeT militants funded by Pak handlers responsible for killings of civilians: IGP

Srinagar : Local Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, being funded by Pakistani handlers, are responsible for killings of civilians and policemen in the Kashmir valley, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir said.

A CID inspector and a civilian were killed by militants in Srinagar on June 22 and 23 respectively.

Reacting to it, IGP Vijay Kumar said that these killings of civilian and local policemen are being committed by local militants of LeT (self claimed as TRF) on the instruction of terrorist Abbas Sheikh.

He said they have been indulging in the these crimes for money being paid by Pakistani handlers. These criminals are falsely labeling these innocent persons as informers to hide their sin, the IGP said.

Meanwhile, in another incident, last night at about 2015 hrs, militants fired upon a mobile shop owner inside his shop at Main Chowk Habba Kadal in the old city.

The victim has been identified as Umer Nazir Bhat son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat resident of Kelashpora Habakada who received critical gunshot injuries and was shifted to nearby hospital for the treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, Apni Party (AP) president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, who is in New Delhi to participate in the All Party Meeting (APM) to be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi this afternoon, strongly condemned the callous attack on a shopkeeper who was shot dead by unknown gunmen at Haba Kadal-Srinagar.

Bukhari termed the incident ‘highly reprehensible’ and unfortunate while stressing that violence will yield nothing but only further death and destruction.

“Just a day after the killing of a policeman in Nowgam, a youth, 25 years of age who was a shopkeeper by profession, had to lose his life to this absurd unceasing cycle of violence. It’s not the cold-blooded murder of a lone individual but the whole family who remained dependent on him,” he said.

Bukhari said that the intensity of such heinous acts is engulfing everyone and there exists a sense of fear and anxiety among the people.

“The government must ensure that such acts are efficiently stalled in the future and a sense of security must prevail. The elements inimical to peace should be brought to justice for their dastardly acts,” he demanded.

He further prayed for the departed soul and expressed profound solidarity with the bereaved family.
