Ind vs NZ: Rain delays toss in WTC Final, no play in first session

Southampton : The toss for the World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand was delayed due to incessant rain, here on Friday.

According to ICC, there will be no play in the first session on on Day 1 of the final match.

‘Update from Southampton. The toss has been delayed and there will be no play in the opening session. #WTC21 Final | #INDvNZ,’ the ICC posted on Twitter.

The match was scheduled to start at 1500 hrs (IST) but the weather ensured that the pitch at the Ageas Bowl remain covered.

Rain has been pelting down in Southampton and the BCCI had earlier said that the match officials were assessing the conditions.

‘Good morning from Southampton. We are just over an hour away from the scheduled start of play but It continues to drizzle here. The match officials are on the field now. ☔ #WTC21,’ the BCCI tweeted.

Notably, the ICC has kept a reserve day to make up for time lost because of inclement weather.
