COVID Third Wave: Jammu traders ‘voluntarily’ announce weekend lockdown for 3 weeks

Jammu : In the wake of speculative Third Wave likely to hit the country in coming 6-8 weeks as per experts, the Jammu traders on Saturday announced weekend lockdown on ‘voluntarily’ basis.

Talking to reporters, Deepak Gupta, President, Nehru Market Ware House Traders Federation said that as everyone has suffered a lot during the second wave and many lives were lost especially the youth.

“As per reports the new ‘Delta Plus’ variant is very contagious and we need to be alert,” said Mr Gupta.

He claimed that taking certain preventive measures in advance and after holding deliberations with all the members of the Federation, it was unanimously decided to announce the weekend lockdown.

“As of now the lockdown will remain for three weeks but the further decision will be taken only after reviewing the situation,” the traders’ leader asserted.

Business community especially after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 has shattered economically due to shutdowns followed by COVID waves, which affected Amarnath Yatra for two consecutive years, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage.

“It will take years to bring back the rail on track,” he said, adding that at present precious human lives are to be saved rather than earning profits in business.

“We cannot be so inhumane,” he expressed and appealed to every section of the society to remain alert, stay safe and take all precautions.

Mr Gupta however, assured all help and cooperation to the people of Jammu from the Traders community at the time of emergency.
