Record 68 Covid patients succumb in Odisha in single day; Toll rises to 4730

Bhubaneswar : A record 68 Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours in Odisha taking the total fatalities in the state to 4,730.

During the period, 1,930 new cases, including 1,117 from quarantine centres and 813 local contact cases, were reported from 30 districts pushing the Covid tally in the state to 9,43,675.

The recovery in the state surged to 9,15,400 after 2,937 people were found cured from the virus on Monday.

The active cases in the state further reduced to 23,492.

Health and family Welfare department sources said of the 1,930 new infections, Khordha district registered the highest number of 431 cases followed by Cuttack(220), Balasore (134), Jajpur(125) and Kendrapara (123).

As many as 25 districts in the state reported less than 100 new cases in the past 24 hours.

Sources said of the 68 deaths reported from 18 districts during the past 24 hours, Khordha district accounted for a maximum 17 deaths followed by Ganjam (7), six each in Bargarh and Mayurbhanj, five in Sundargarh and four in Puri.Three each died in Angul and Jajpur district.

The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in the state today rose to 3.09 in comparison to 2.91 reported on Monday.

Sources said 62,410 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours and 1,930 of them ( 3.09 per cent) found infected.

Two districts — Cuttack and Nayagarh– have reported the TPR slightly more than 5 per cent while the rest 28 districts have TPR less than 5 per cent.

Out of 23,492 active cases, Khordha district has the highest number of 4,703 active cases followed by Cuttack ( 3448).Five districts have active cases in between 1001 to 2500 while the rest 23 districts have less than 1000 cases.

Official sources said till midnight of July12 as many as 1,47,03,651 tests were conducted in the state and 9,43,675 of them found infected with coronavirus of which already 9,15,400 have been cured and 4730 have died.
