Rajnath reviews ongoing work on Indigenous Aircraft Carrier

Kochi : Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday reviewed the ongoing work on the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC-1) which is under construction at the Cochin Shipyard Limited.

Soon after reviewing the progress of the project, the Defence Minister tweeted that “Reviewed first-hand the ongoing work on the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier, which is India’s pride and a shining example of Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

“The IAC has made significant progress.

Commissioning of the IAC next year will be a befitting tribute to 75 years of India’s independence.’

In connection with the Minister’s visit, traffic regulations have been imposed in the city especially in areas near Thevara and Naval Base.

On his maiden visit to the Southern Naval Command on Thursday evening, Mr Singh was accompanied by Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS).

They arrived at the Navy airport in the Naval base in a special flight of the Indian Air Force (IAF). around 1930 hrs.

They were received by Vice Admiral AK Chawla, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of SNC and other senior Naval officials.

The Minister has also been briefed on the indigenisation efforts and Covid-19 innovations of the Indian Navy extending aid provided to the civil administration in the fight against the pandemic.

The Union Minister will leave for New Delhi this evening.
