Odisha reports 2487 nCoV cases, 51 deaths in past 24 hours

Bhubaneswar : Odisha reported 2487 fresh infections and 51 deaths in the past 24 hours taking the covid tally in the state to 9,27,186 with 4299 fatalities.

Today was the fourth consecutive day the daily covid load remained below 3 K and the daily death toll crossed 50 for the second consecutive day.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said in the past 24 hours 1428new cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 1059 as local contact cases from all the 30 districts in the state.

As many as 20 of the 30 districts reported less than one hundred new cases while Cuttack registered the highest number of422 cases followed by Khordha (407), Jajpur ( 202), Balasore( 157) and Puri ( 154).

Out of 51 fatalities reported from 17 districts in the state in the past 24 hours, Khordha accounted for nine deaths while five each succumbed to the virus in Bargarh, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj districts.

Three each died in five districts, two each in four districts and one each died in four other districts.

The total recovery in the state surged to 8,94,104 with 3326 more people being recovered from the virus on Monday last.

The active cases further declined to 28,730 of which 12,129 cases were found from three districts.They are Khordha( 5082), Cuttack ( 4233) and Balasore(2814).

Meanwhile, a two-member central team arrived in the state on Monday to assess the covid situation in the districts showing high active cases and test positivity ratio.

The team, sources said will meet the health officials of the state government, make a field visit to the covid prone districts, review treatment facilities available in hospitals, contract tracing, vaccination, surveillance activities, covid management and submit a report to the central government.

Official sources said Mayurbhanj and Nayagarh districts in the state have the highest TPR of above 7 per cent while Bolangir and Jharsuguda have the lowest TPR of less than one per cent.

As far as confirmed covid cases are concerned, out of 30 districts,19 districts have more than 20,000 cases with Khordha district registering the highest number of 132588 cases followed by Cuttack ( 74921) and Sundargarh (58546).

Nine districts have the covid positive cases between 10,000 to 20,000 while only two districts-Deogarh and Gajapati have less than 10,000 cases so far.
