Odisha logs 2182 nCoV cases, 67 fatalities in past 24 hours

Bhubaneswar : Odisha reported 2182 new Covid cases and 67 deaths in the past 24 hours taking the total tally in the state to 9,52,111 with 4992 fatalities. The covid recovery cases in the state surged to 9,25,526 with 2317 covid patients being cured on Friday while the active cases further declined to 21,540.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said 1252 new infections were reported from quarantine centres and 924 local contact cases from 30 districts in the past 24 hours.

Khordha district registered the highest number of 510 cases followed by Cuttack ( 308), Jajpur (175) and Balasore (161).
The other 26 districts however, registered less than 100 new cases. The test positivity rate in the state remained 2.9 per cent Saturday as out of 73,027 tests conducted in the state ,2182 tested Covid positive.

Since July 14, the state has been witnessing TPR less than 3 per cent .Only three districts such as Cuttack, Nayagarh and Jagatsinghpur have reported test positivity rate above 5 per cent with Cuttack registering 6.4 percent, the highest in the state.

The other 27 districts, however, registered less than 5 per cent with Jharsuguda and Sonepur, both in Western Odisha , reporting the lowest TPR of 0.3 percent.

According to an analysis four coastal Odisha districts Khordha, Cuttack, Balasore and Jajpur together accounted for 51 per cent of the total active cases in the state.

Khordha has the highest number of 4790 active cases followed by Cuttack( 2950),Balasore (1780) and Jajpur (1505). These four districts combined together have 11,025 active cases. The rest 26 districts are declared as Green Zone with less than 1000 active cases.

Sources said in July alone till date 39,224 people were found infected with the coronavirus while during the period 48,067 were cured from the virus.Out of 4992 covid toll reported in the state so far, as many as 929 people have lost lives during the last fortnight in July.

During the past 24 hours , 67 covid patients under treatment succumbed to the virus in the state .They included a majority of 25 from Khordha district followed by Ganjam ( 8), Sundargrh ( 7) and six each from Puri and Mayurbhanj district.

So far a highest number of 874 deaths have been recorded in Khordha district, followed by Sundargarh (434), Ganjam (408)and Puri ( 302).

Meanwhile, Director of Health Bijaya Mohapatra said the rate of covid patient admission, severity of the virus and admission in ICU have reduced a lot in the state.

The state government has claimed that so far till July 16 as many as 1,08,67,707 doses have been inoculated in the first phase while 30,63,671 people have been administered with the second dose.
