Odisha logs 1927 new covid cases,67 deaths in past 24 hours

Bhubaneswar : For the second consecutive day the daily covid load in Odisha remained below 2 K as 1927 new cases were reported from 30 districts in the past 24 hours.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said the covid tally in the state today surged to 9,61,934 while the covid fatalities rose to 5308 with 67 covid patients succumbing to the virus in the past 24 hours.

The total recovery from coronavirus went up to 9,36,950 after 1943 patients recovered from the virus on Wednesday.
The active cases were further reduced to 19,623 in the state.

Official sources said of the total 1948 new infections, 1120 were reported from the quarantine centres and 828as local contact cases.

A maximum number of 480 were registered from Khordha district followed by 279 in Cuttack,115 from Jajpur and 112 from Kendrapara. The rest 26 districts in the state reported less than 100 new cases.

Sources said 67 covid deaths were reported from 13 districts in the state in the past 24 hours. Khordha district alone accounted for 20 deaths followed by Balasore ( 8), Bargarh ( 7), Nabarangpur (6) and five each in Puri, Rayagada and Angul district.

The Test Positivity Rate( TPR) in the state today remained 2.4 per cent. Only two districts- Jajpur and Kendrapara have the TPR over five per cent with Jajpur district registering the highest TPR of 24.6 per cent followed by Kendrapara(6.3).
The other 28 districts in the state have a TPR below 5 per cent. Jharsuguda district in Western Odisha has the lowest TPR of 0.3 per cent only.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has decided to reopen hostels for students of Class X and Class XII in the State for the academic session 2021-22 from July 26.

The government had earlier, ordered that the offline classes for X and XII will be held in all the schools, both government and private, from July 26.

As per a notification all Hostels under the control of the School and Mass Education department, ST & SC Development, Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare department, private schools and privately managed English Medium Schools will be reopened from July 26.

The Head of the Institute / Hostel should ensure that students are kept at an appropriate distance and the common area in the Hostel like Mess and Toilet is maintained and sanitized properly at regular intervals.

The students should obtain the consent of their parents before joining the hostel.

There should be an Isolation room available inside the Hostel and if some residents fall seeks, he/she should be isolated immediately and proper care should be taken for his/her treatment.
