Odisha COVID tally surges to 9,32,330 with 2542 new cases, Recovery surpasses nine lakh-mark

Bhubaneswar : Odisha reported 2542 new COVID-19 cases and 57 deaths in the past 24 hours, pushing the COVID tally in the state to 9,32,330 and death toll to 4415.

The recovery of Covid patients on Thursday crossed nine lakh-mark after 2920 patients cured on Wednesday, taking the total recoveries in the state to 9,00,282.

The active cases in the state further declined to 27,580. At least, three districts–Khordha, Cuttack and Balasore– have reported high active cases of over 2500 and declared as ‘Red Zone’.

Four other districts such as Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Puri and Bhadrak have over 1000 active cases but less than 2000 declared as Orange zone while the other 23 districts having less than 1000 active cases are considered as Green Zone.

According to official sources, Khordha district in coastal Odisha has the highest number of 4862 active cases till date while Deogarh in Western Odisha has the lowest number of 54 active cases. Two other districts-Nuapada and Gajapati-have less than 100 active cases.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said in the past 24 hours, 1458 infections were reported from the quarantine centres and 1084 local contact cases from all the 30 districts.

Cuttack district registered the highest number of 428 positive cases, followed by Khordha (424), Balasore ( 221), Kendrapara (167) and Puri (150).

The test positivity rate ( TPR) has started declining in many districts. As per the latest report, only five districts in the state have the TPR between 5 to 7 per cent while the rest 25 districts have TPR less than 5 per cent.

Cuttack district in coastal Odisha has the highest TPR of 6.9 per cent and Bolangir district in Western Odisha has the lowest TPR of 0.3 per cent.

According to official sources, during the past 24 hours, 72,645 tests were conducted in the state and 2542 ( about 3.5 per cent) of them were found infected with coronavirus.
