Odisha COVID-19 Recovery at 99.22% 12 Engineering College Students Contract Virus

Bhubaneswar: The coastal State on Thursday reported 84 fresh cases of COVID-19 infections including 12 students of a private college in Cuttack testing positive for the disease. With this the cumulative caseload climbed to 3,38,489 while the death toll remained static at 1,918 with no fresh fatality reported in the past 24 hours. Of the new cases, 49 were reported from quarantine centres and 35 detected during contact tracing. Cuttack district recorded the highest number of new cases at 25, followed by Sundargarh (10) and Bargarh (9).

The fresh cases were reported from 17 districts while the remaining 13 districts were free from new infections in the past 24 hours. “Twelve students of a private college are among new patients and have been quarantined in the institute”s hostel. Efforts are being made to trace their contacts,” Cuttack Municipal Corporation’s health official Satyabrata Mohapatra said, adding that the college will remain closed for 10 days as a precautionary measure.

Currently, Boudh and Malkangiri districts in the State have become COVID-free with no active cases now under medical attention. The death toll remained at 1,918 as no fresh fatality has been reported since March 13. The case fatality rate (CFR) currently stands at 0.56% in Odisha incomparison to national average of 1.39% CFR. 66% are men while the remaining 34% are women.

The State’s recovery rate currently stands at 99.22% with as many as 3,35,857 patients cured of the disease so far while the country’s recovery rate currently stands at 96.41%. Odisha currently has 661 active cases, which account for 0.19% of total positive cases registered in the State.

At present the country has 2.20% active cases out of the total caseload. The State’s share is 2.95% in the country’s confirmed virus caseload while the active cases are 0.27% of India’s total active cases. The number of cured patients accounts for 3.04% of the country’s total recovery.

Odisha has so far reported 1.2% of the country’s Corona virus deaths. A total of 86,87,133 sample tests have been conducted in the state so far including 25,401 on Tuesday. Odisha has reported a 3.89% positivity rate while 96.11% samples have tested negative for COVID-19.
