LS adjourned, three Bills introduced

New Delhi : Lok Sabha was disrupted on Friday as Opposition members continued raising demands for sacking of Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni.

The House was first adjourned during the Question Hour, when Speaker Om Birla adjourned it till 2 pm. When the House reassembled, protests continued, and the House was adjourned for the day.

Earlier in the day, as the House met, opposition members trooped near the Speaker’s podium showing placards demanding the minister be sacked and punishment for those guilty in Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

Speaker made repeated appeals to the members to go back to their seats, but protests continued even as the Question Hour went on.

Bahujan Samaj Party MP Malook Nagar objected saying the continuing protest was violation of the rights of other MPs.

As some protesting MPs thumped desks, the Speaker warned they would be held accountable for any damage to the property of the House.

As protests and sloganeering continued, Birla adjourned the House till 2 pm.

When the House met again, the scene was no different. Papers were laid down as opposition MPs raised slogans and stood in the Well of the House showing placards.

Three Bills, The National Anti-Doping Bill, 2021, The Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Bill, 202, and The Chartered Accountants, the Cost and Works Accountants and the Company Secretaries (Amendment) Bill, 2021 were introduced amid the din.

Opposition has been demanding sacking of Mishra after an SIT report on the Lakhimpur incident called it a deliberate act and not of negligence. In the incident which took place on October 3, four farmers and a journalist were killed after being run over by cars from the Minister’s convoy. Three people from the Minister’s convoy were also killed.

Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish is one of the accused who have been arrested.
