Lockdown crisis: Mah govt to provide Rs 1,500 each to auto-rickshaw drivers

Mumbai : The Maharashtra transport department will provide the auto-rickshaw drivers a relief of one-time financial assistance from May 22 to check the spread of COVID-19.

According to a release by the Transport Commissioner office late last night, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to provide one time financial assistance of Rs 1500 to the licensed autorickshaw drivers.

Necessary funds have been made available for this. Rickshaw drivers will have to register their vehicle number, license number and Aadhaar number on the online system without submitting any documents. This information will be authenticated on the computer system.

The operating system has been developed by ICICI Bank and is in the final stages of testing.

On From May 22, rickshaw drivers will be able to apply online.

Online presentation on application process to rickshaw association representatives from all districts of the state.

It will be held on May 21.

As full funding has been made available by the government for this purpose, the one-time subsidy will be immediately credited to the respective bank accounts of the rickshaw pullers whose Aadhaar numbers match the bank account, the release added.

Notably, the Chief Minister had announced the decision to provide relief to rickshaw drivers last month.
