Himachal Pradesh gets 14,000 metric tonnes of wheat and rice under PM Garib Kalyan yojana

Hamirpur(HP) : Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKY), more than 14000 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat and rice, (5 kg per person per month from July 2021 to November 2021) have been allocated to Himachal Pradesh by the central government, officials said on Saturday.

A spokesperson of the Food Corporation of India said on Saturday that about 29,554 MT rice and wheat had already been released to the state by the central government.,

He said that in Himachal Pradesh region, it has procured 23659.71 MT of paddy from 848 farmers of the state during the last Kharif season. Against this purchase, Rs 44.48 crore has been paid to the farmers which will be directly transferred to their accounts through electronic mode within 48 hours.

During the upcoming season( 2021-22), the FCI, Himachal region was operating nine procurement centres, he added.

He said that for the first time in Himachal Pradesh paddy was being procured and this target has been achieved by FCI in a very short span of time.

Apart from this, food grains under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and regular allocation of other welfare schemes (OWS) are also being released on time to the state government for further distribution to needy people under the scheme.
