Happy Birthday : Sourav Ganguly turns 49, Simple ceremony is on card owing to Pandemic

Kolkata : BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, the Maharaja of Indian cricket, turned 49 on Thursday through the yearly celebration at his ancestral home at Behala to be a low key affair owing to the current pandemic situation in this metropolis.

” There is no celebration for Covid-19 this time. During the current situation, there is no celebration of birthdays. I will stay at home. I will spend the whole day with the family,” said Dada.

Sourav Chandidas Ganguly, or Sourav Gangopadhyay affectionately known as Dada, an Indian cricket administrator, commentator, quiz master in a talk show and former national cricket team captain, was born on this day in this city in 1972.

” Happy Birthday” messages poured in for ” Dada” of Indian cricket as players and administrators of yesteryears and current and fans wishing him a long life.

When asked it has been 25 years since his debut for the Indian team, the former captain was quoted saying that ” The year is really significant. But it has nothing to do with Birthdays. Birthday is Birthday. The game is the game. It has been 25 years since my debut for the Indian team. Lord is a part of that tour. Even then more such parts came. Many opportunities have come. Each event has a different relevance. These are not just another incident. My whole career has a different relevance.”
