New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) Former Gujarat DGP Shabir Hussein Shekhadam Khandwawala was on Monday appointed as the head of the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit.

The 70-year-old, a 1973 batch IPS officer, takes over from Ajit Singh whose tenure ended on March 31.

After retiring as Gujarat DGP in late 2010, Khandwawala worked with the Essar Group as an advisor and was also part of the central government’s Lokpal Search Committee.

The new ACU chief has been appointed ahead of the IPL 2021, beginning April 9. He will be flying to Chennai on Wednesday ahead of the start of the IPL season.

Ajit Singh, a former DGP of Rajasthan, took up the role in April 2018 and will continue for a month to help Khandwawala with the new role.

Singh, a 1982-Rajasthan cadre IPS officer, had retired in 2017 before taking up the role with BCCI.
