BMC to Initiate Instant Certificate Case against Holding Tax Defaulters, Seal Buildings

Bhubaneswar: Due to a huge number of holding tax defaulters, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has tightened up its belt to initiate instant certificate case against them in the State’s capital city here.

The circular issued to all the Zonal Deputy Commissioners has instructed, “Certificate cases, under the OPDR Act, 1962, may be immediately initiated against all such defaulters.

It has further issued order instructing, “Steps may also be taken to seal the buildings of the defaulters, against whom certificate cases have been initiated, at the earliest to prevent loss of revenue.” While the BMC Ward Supervisors have been instructed to monitor filing certificate cases, strict action will also be taken against the defaulting Ward Officers and Ward Supervisors, warned the circular issued by the BMC Deputy Commissioner (Revenue).
