Bhubaneswar : The ruling BJD will field 40 per cent of its candidates from
backward classes in the coming three tier Panchayat and Urbal Local body elections.
A resolution in this regard was unanimously passed in the party executive committee
meeting and later approved by Party Supremo Naveen Patnaik on Saturday.
BJD Organisational Secretary Pranab Prakash Das moved the proposal and it was unanimouslypassed in the Executive Committee meeting. Later Party President Naveen Patnaik approved it. BJD has requested the Union government to give justice to backward classes and reserve seats for the backward classes in the Panchayat and urban local body election after the Supreme Court order rejected it recently.The BJD and the state government would support whatever legal and constitutional decision the union government would take on the issue, the party sources said.
