263 community kitchen functioning in UP

To help the poor and the daily wage earners the Uttar Pradesh government is providing food to more than one lakh needy people of the state through 263 community kitchens established across the state.

“Thousands of food packets are being delivered free to the people daily through these government community kitchens set up in 67 districts. Private institutions are also becoming partners in this big campaign,” a government spokesman said here on Wednesday.

Under this initiative free food is being given to the needy and poor during partial curfew. The mantra of this initiative is no poor, laborers, and hawker should go hungry during this period. The responsibility of operating community kitchens is being handled from the level of Agriculture Production Commissioner.

According to the government data released on May 11, food packets are being made available to 101176 needy people in the state through 263 government community kitchens andmore than 60 private institutions. “Chief Minister Yogi has given instructions for immediate action in the 8 districts of the state where the community kitchen scheme has not yet resumed,” the sources added.

Community kitchens are also being run by the Government in covid Hospitals being set up in various districts. In the fight against Corona, the emphasis of the government is more on cities as well as rural areas. In such a situation, instructions have been given to make proper arrangements for food, drinking water, sanitation and security in the quarantine centers set up in rural areas. Food and drinking water are being provided to the people by setting up community kitchens in these centers.

This is indeed a laudable initiative of the UP Government. Other State Governments should also emulate such initiatives as this is mostly directed for the poor and needy.
